A (mm.) is a millimeter When you look at a ruler on the upper inch part that you know, you will notice that an inch has 16 marks in-between, thats how you can go up to a 15/16th` s of an inch before it turns into 1 inch (like in wood shop or mechanics, 1/16th~15/16th`s) now looking at the lower part of the same ruler you will see centimeters (cm.) there`s a hair less then 2 1/2 cm. in an inch, "every mark inside a cm. is called a Millimeter ( mm. )" and mm. are what USA and other countries measure most jewelry with. There are 10 marks in a cm., just as there are 16 in an inch, the easiest way to remember is that a mm. is the smallest mark on the lower part of a ruler and comes the closest to being exact when measuring a piece of jewelry, unlike measuring in inches.
